Circular Economy Club in Santa Barbara

Updated: Jun 7

Did you know that there is a Circular Economy Club in Santa Barbara?

The Circular Economy Club is the non-profit international circular economy network. It is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about and helping to support the transition towards a circular economy. Their website is an incredible resource for anyone wanting to engage more on the path to a circular economy transition.

Here is the exact meaning of a circular economy by Wikipedia: "A circular economy (also referred to as "circularity") is an economic system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources. Circular systems employ reuse, sharing, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing and recycling to create a closed-loop system, minimizing the use of resource inputs and the creation of waste, pollution and carbon emissions. The circular economy aims to keep products, equipment and infrastructure in use for longer, thus improving the productivity of these resources. Waste materials and energy should become input for other processes: either a component or recovered resource for another industrial process or as regenerative resources for nature (e.g., compost). This regenerative approach is in contrast to the traditional linear economy, which has a "take, make, dispose" model of production."

Organic Essentials supports a circular economy system, by engaging more and more people to buy more organic and locally grown food. We thrive on using only reusable delivery bags and avoiding plastic packaging. We use recycled paper bags when necessary, donate leftovers, compost the rest, bring back the waxed boxes to our local farmers and advocate for more circularity through our "tip of the week"!
